Weed Control Operator

Whispering Landscapes assembles a small team of competent and motivated people to work during spring, summer and autumn. This small group maintains biodiversity through the action of weed control. We specialise in remote sites throughout Tasmania where specialised attention is required, on land adjacent to and within areas of high conservation value.
This casual position will be perfect for you if:
- You enjoy Bushwalking and have no issues with walking on uneven ground.
- You have attention to detail, while also wanting to understand the ‘bigger picture’.
- You love learning and diligently applying the training you receive.
- You can carry a bushwalking pack with a fluid load.
- You love the environment and want to ensure that weeds are located and removed.
- You enjoy working on country (3 nights per week) and being self-sufficient in remote areas while on the job.
Requirements
Key Requirements
- Apply your training, to identify weed species in the natural environment while undertaking controls.
- Identify threatened flora or have the ability to gain that experience to ensure their protection while undertaking weed control activities.
- Operate small plant and equipment relevant to weed spraying services.
- Effective delivery of weed control services with the ability to prioritise projects within specific timeframes.
- A good understanding of weather dynamics and the flexibility with regard to weather patterns which influence where and when work can be completed.
- Ability to interpret directives relating to weed control with care and due diligence.
- Deliver weed control services in a timely and accurate manner using the training provided.
- Maintain accurate records (this is an obligation) and trained by the licensed operator.
- Use and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) in relation to specific projects.
- Ensure adherence to project specifications and related directives, oversee equipment maintenance and ensure relevant equipment functioning is in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.
- Comply with all WHS policies, practices and procedures in accordance with current legislation.
- Have a Drivers Licence and White Card – we will support you to be trained in First Aid, Traffic Management and a Chemical certificate.
- GPS or mapping knowledge or qualifications would be looked at favourably.
Note: You must have the capacity to undertake the physical requirements of this role and there may be limited phone service in certain areas.
About The Company
Whispering Landscapes assembles a small team of competent and motivated people early each spring to complete field activities from mid-September through to the end of autumn. This small group maintains biodiversity through the action of weed control. We service a broad range of clients which enables us to build capacity of seasonal staff to ensure effective outcomes always occur on the ground. We specialise in identifying weeds in urban and remote sites that need specific attention on land adjacent to or within areas of high conservation values throughout Tasmania.
On the job training and mentoring is available from the get go. We want you to come out and see some of these amazing places that need a hand and we can’t expect you to know it all straight up.
Whispering Landscapes has thirteen consecutive years experience with remote area weed control on top of fourteen years’ experience as a Park Ranger managing reserved land in Tasmania. We advise and complete control methods in line with the land management authority or landowner prescriptions to maintain biodiversity across multiple land tenures while managing the associated risks with such tasks.
