Kids & Teens in the Valley are hiring!

Job Title: Youth Connector
Hours: Part-Time (20 hours/week)

A not-for-profit organisation supporting children and teens aged 6–18 in the Derwent Valley, Tasmania. The Youth Connector will play a key role in building strong relationships with young people, families, and community stakeholders across the Derwent Valley, while amplifying youth voice and strengthening community connection. This role focuses on meaningful engagement, outreach, and partnership development, including supporting opportunities for funding, sponsorship, and in-kind contributions that enhance the work of Kids & Teens in the Valley. The position supports the sustainable development of the organisation in line with its Strategic Plan and long-term vision for youth wellbeing, participation, and belonging.

  • Strong communication, engagement, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to relate effectively to young people, families, community members, and stakeholders.

  • Empathy and compassion, with an understanding of the diverse experiences and needs of young people.

  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Demonstrated networking and relationship-building skills across community, business, and service sectors.

  • Knowledge of youth and community resources, or the ability to quickly build this knowledge.

  • Flexibility and adaptability in responding to changing community needs and opportunities.

  • Commitment to social justice, inclusion, and equitable access to opportunities for all young people.


Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Diploma or higher in Youth Work, Community Development, Community Services, Social Work, or a related field (or equivalent senior experience).

  • Demonstrated experience in community development, including needs assessment, program design, delivery, and evaluation.

  • Strong understanding of youth mental health and wellbeing, with a focus on early intervention and strengths-based practice.

  • Experience working with children and young people aged 6–25 in wellbeing or youth development settings.

  • Proven ability to build effective relationships with families, schools, community organisations, and funding bodies.

  • Experience contributing to program reporting, outcomes measurement, or accountability requirements for funders.

  • High standard of ethical, trauma-aware, and youth-centred practice.

  • Current Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration (Tasmania).

  • National Police Check, or willingness to obtain.

  • Current driver’s licence and access to a reliable, insured vehicle.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or events.

Kids & Teens in the Valley is a not-for-profit organisation based in the beautiful Derwent Valley.
They are a place-based organisation fully committed to improving the social and emotional well-being of young people 6-18 years and their families.
They run evidence-based personal growth programs, recreational and developmental activities, and a free school holiday program for children aged 6-12.
They are grateful to Communities for Children Southeast, who fund their 6-12 programs.
They will continue to work hard to build strong relationships with families, schools, other service providers, and the local community.
