SWN Good News Story – Cheryl Bone
Cheryl initially connected with SWN in 2023, for assistance with creating a resume and to express interest in RSA training to enter the hospitality industry. With Cheryl’s prior experience and strong skills in customer service, she was a fantastic candidate and required some assistance with updating her resume and some basic coaching. After successfully completing the SWN Hospitality Ready course Cheryl is now working at a local hospitality venue as a Bar, Gaming and Bistro Attendant where she has been employed for the last 13-months.
We recently caught up with Cheryl to ask her some questions about her experience.
**Have you always lived and worked in Tasmania?**
Yes, and I have lived locally within the Southern Midlands region for the last 27 years.
**What sort of jobs/industries have you worked in, in the past?**
Previously I worked in retail, hospitality and my last role prior to re-entering hospitality I worked in the aged care sector within a catering department. While I enjoyed all of my roles, I most enjoyed retail and hospitality.
**How did you hear about the SWN Jobs Hub?**
I initially heard about SWN through a family member who had previously accessed SWN services and have since referred other family members who were requiring support with employment and training.
**How did you find your initial meeting with SWN went? Did it meet your expectations?**
I found my initial meeting with SWN a good and positive experience. I felt welcome from the start, was able to openly share my experiences and ideal outcome in terms of employment and training. The staff were understanding and were able to give me good advice on where to start and assisted me in moving forward with understanding of my goals.
**Did you initially access SWN services for employment or training/upskilling purposes?**
Initially I accessed services for advice, guidance and assistance with creating a resume, as I hadn’t needed one for some time and didn’t know where to start. I then later expressed my interest in undertaking the SWN Hospitality Ready Course, was interviewed for a place and was selected to be a participant.
**Did you reach your intended goals accessing support from SWN?**
Yes, I definitely did. I have been in employment for 13-months since completing the SWN Hospitality Ready Course. From completing the course, I received 3 job offers and was able to decide which opportunity would be the best fit for me.
**What is your current role and what does a typical workday look like for you?**
I am employed as a Bar, Gaming and Bistro Attendant, where I am serving customers, pouring and making drinks, assist with stock control tasks, waitressing, cleaning, Keno and TAB operations and work events such as Karaoke and DJ nights, weddings and baby showers.
**Would you recommend SWN to your family and friends?**
Most definitely, I have recommended SWN to a few of my family members now.
SWN would like to thank you Cheryl, for taking the time to sit down with us and have a chat about your journey with SWN Jobs Hub. We wish you all the very best for your very bright future in the hospitality industry.
